Your career journey

What was your background before joining Castle Water?

After high-school I went to Perth UHI to study computing while working in retail, then ended up working Hospitality in the local Wetherspoons working my way up to a management role.

How did you first hear about Castle Water, and what attracted you to apply?

When I felt my time was up in hospitality I looked for surrounding jobs in the vicinity where I applied for a customer service job in Castle Water, but they noticed I had computing experience where then lead to an interview within the Application Delivery team for a trainee role.

Have you progressed in your role since joining? If so, how?

Since joining my progress has been ever-growing as I have gained a deeper understanding of the business. I’ve been able to expand my skillset and build strong relationships across the entire business which has made my job inherently easier.

Life at Castle Water

What does a typical day in your role look like?

My typical day at Castle Water involves acting as a key liaison between Gentrack and Castle Water to ensure the smooth operation of our Velocity billing software. I manage and resolve support tickets for Castle Water users whenever possible and oversee the two-week Velocity Sprint.

What do you enjoy most about working at Castle Water?

I enjoy working with the team I operate with; we have our team lunch’s which is great to get everyone together – it’s a great laugh and good to see everyone since we mostly work remote.

What’s one standout moment or achievement you’re proud of?

I’m proud of establishing a strong and efficient relationship with Gentrack, which has greatly improved communication and reduced the volume of incoming tickets. By streamlining processes, I’ve minimized the need to redirect engineering-focused tickets, bringing Velocity 2nd line support tickets down from around 300 to just 8—most of which no longer require engineering support.

What advice would you give to someone applying for a role at Castle Water?

My advice would be to stay proactive and take every opportunity to use the learning tools provided by Castle Water. Build strong relationships, take initiative and most importantly don’t be afraid to ask questions!
