Senior Test Analyst

Senior Test Analyst combining strong test leadership and quality-assurance expertise with hands-on manual, front-end, back-end, API and integration testing across Agile and Waterfall delivery environments. You will take ownership of testing activities, provide day-to-day leadership and direction to other members of the Test Team when required, and work closely with Test, Development, Product and business stakeholders to support the delivery of reliable, effective and low-risk technology solutions. The role also provides the opportunity to improve testing approaches, mentor less-experienced testers and strengthen the team’s use of modern automation, AI and emerging testing technologies.

Perks you'll enjoy

  • Competitive salary ranging from £35,000 to £45,000 per annum
  • Company pension, life insurance and sick pay
  • Cycle-to-work scheme and on-site parking
  • Monday to Friday schedule, so your weekends are all yours
  • Opportunities for career development and progression

What you'll be doing

  • Leading and coordinating day-to-day testing activities, allocating work, monitoring progress and helping the Test Team maintain consistent quality standards.
  • Planning testing activities by analysing requirements, assessing risk, defining appropriate coverage and supporting estimates, traceability and test completion.
  • Designing and executing tests across front-end, back-end, API and integration layers, covering functional, regression and end-to-end scenarios.
  • Leading defect triage and release-readiness activities, ensuring defects, blockers and residual risks are clearly understood and appropriately progressed.
  • Providing clear, evidence-based reporting on test progress, software quality, outstanding defects, blockers and delivery risk to technical, project and business stakeholders.
  • Acting as an advocate for quality throughout the delivery lifecycle, constructively challenging requirements, solutions, risks and assumptions where appropriate.
  • Working collaboratively with Business Analysts, Product Managers, Software Engineers, project and release teams, and Business Users.
  • Peer-reviewing test artefacts, mentoring and supporting less-experienced testers, and providing practical direction when required.
  •  Contributing to the continuous improvement of test strategy, processes, tools and standards, including the practical use of automation, AI-assisted testing and CI/CD quality gates.

What you'll bring to the role

  • A minimum of three years’ hands-on software testing experience, with demonstrable experience operating at Senior Tester or Test Lead level.
  • Previous experience leading or managing testing activities, including work allocation, progress monitoring, mentoring and maintaining testing standards.
  • Strong experience across front-end, back-end, API and integration testing, including functional, regression and end-to-end scenarios.
  • A strong understanding of software development and testing lifecycles across Agile and Waterfall delivery environments.
  • Experience using Jira and Xray, or equivalent test and defect-management solutions, together with strong defect-management and reporting capability.
  • Strong leadership, organisational, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively within challenging delivery timescales.
  • The confidence to constructively challenge requirements and solutions while building positive working relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong awareness of current and emerging testing technologies, with practical exposure to AI in testing and an understanding of how automation can improve test design, execution, analysis and reporting.
  • Applicants must be based in Scotland and able to work from the required Scottish location.
  • Experience of end-to-end test ownership, SQL, Playwright, Selenium, Gherkin, Cucumber, automated regression testing or CI/CD quality gates would be advantageous.
  • ISTQB Foundation Level or a similar testing accreditation would be beneficial; an advanced or test-management qualification would also be welcomed.
  • Experience testing billing-system software platforms, or working with such platforms in a testing capacity.
  • Experience working within the utilities sector, preferably within the water industry.
