Workday System Administrator

We are seeking a skilled Workday System Administrator working within the IT organisation to support the implementation and ongoing management of our Workday Financials application. This individual will serve as the subject matter expert (SME), and system administrator, working closely with our Finance team to ensure the system is optimised to meet business needs.

The role will be responsible for system configuration, integrations, security, and managing system updates, ensuring that Workday Financials aligns with business requirements and operates efficiently. User management and first-line troubleshooting will be handled by the Service Desk; this role will focus on advanced system support, process optimisation, and strategic enhancements. Additionally, the Workday System Administrator will support reporting needs by assisting users with report-building best practices and ensuring data integrity, rather than generating reports directly.

The Workday System Administrator will also work closely with the Head of Test to ensure that all changes and updates undergo appropriate testing before being released into the live environment.

What you'll be doing

  • Act as the Workday Financials SME, ensuring alignment with business needs and best practices
  • Configure and maintain Workday Financials, including business processes, security roles, and integrations
  • Work closely with the Finance team to understand system requirements, streamline processes, and enhance functionality
  • Manage system updates, releases, and patches, ensuring smooth adoption of new features
  • Work closely with the Head of Test to ensure robust testing processes are in place, including functional testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and regression testing before any changes or updates are released
  • Support reporting users by ensuring data accuracy, troubleshooting reporting issues, and providing guidance on report-building best practices
  • Oversee data integrity and compliance, ensuring accurate financial reporting and adherence to regulatory requirements
  • Act as the escalation point for complex system issues beyond the scope of the Service Desk
  • Provide training and best practice guidance to Finance and other stakeholders

What you'll bring to the role

Must have:

  • Strong configuration skills in Workday, including security, business processes, calculated fields, custom reports, account posting rules, and integrations
  • Experience with finance operations and processes, such as general ledger, accounts payable, receivable, procurement, expenses and financial reporting

  • Ability to lead system improvements and drive automation
  • Understanding of compliance requirements, including financial regulations and audits
  • Strong communication skills – ability to translate technical details into business language
  • Problem-solving mindset – proactive in identifying and resolving system issues
  • Stakeholder management – comfortable working closely with Finance, IT, Testing, and external partners
  • Analytical thinking – capable of understanding financial data and optimizing system outputs
  • Attention to detail – ensuring system accuracy, compliance, and integrity
  • Collaboration skills – ability to work effectively with the Head of Test to maintain a structured and reliable testing process
  • Adaptability and learning agility – ability to stay up to date with Workday enhancements and evolving business needs

Advantageous:

  • Workday certifications, especially in Workday Financials or Workday Integration
  • Knowledge of cloud security principles and financial data governance
  • Knowledge of advanced Workday integrations (Workday Studio, APIs, etc.)
  • Previous experience in Finance, Accounting, or IT supporting financial applications
